Some of you may wish to avoid alcohol use altogether in your homeopathic remedies or tinctures, either for sensitivity issues or otherwise. Here are a few tips on how to do this:
For Remedies, to avoid alcohol:
- Mix your remedies with distilled water only (leave out the alcohol). This will shorten their shelf life to around 10 days, especially in the warmer months. If you see anything “floating” in your bottle or if it smells “off”, sour, moldy, etc., it’s time to make a new remedy from a fresh pellet.
- Make sure to keep your remedies in a cool place (but not in the refrigerator). This will help preserve their potency and freshness.
- Take olfactory (“sniff”) doses. This way you will avoid consuming the alcohol altogether. Personally, even though we take olfactory doses, we prefer to leave the alcohol in so we can “smell” something when we take a remedy. However, olfactory doses may not be an option for some people as you may need stronger dose (drop dose).
For tinctures, to remove the alcohol:
- Boil drinking water. Pour about 1-2 oz of it into a cup and drop the designated amount of tincture into the cup. Let it sit a few minutes. Either sip this or dump it into juice and drink. The boiling water should evaporate off the alcohol from the tincture.
